FINANCE Minister Alexander Chikwanda says Government does not inadvertently infringe the prerogatives and initiatives of the Bank of Zambia in its mandate of monetary policy.Speaking at the Bank of Zambia's 50th Anniversary International Symposium in Lusaka last week, Mr. Chikwanda said the normal or established practice is that the Treasury and the Bank discuss both fiscal and monetary approaches, which invariably interrelate with a view to achieving optimal harmonization.
Zambia Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU) has appealed to government to introduce windfall tax on sales of copper and increase mineral royalty tax from six to ten percent. ZCTU Secretary General Roy Mwaba said the revenues which will be collected from these will allow for an upward adjustment of the minimum taxable threshold which is proposed to move from the current K3000 to K4000 in line with the high cost of living. 

Kwacha down on FDI

COMMERCE Trade and Industry Minister Robert Sichinga says the Kwacha cannot perform well on the market when there is recycling of capital and lack of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). And Mr. Sichinga says the Africa Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA) has not served its purpose, because Zambia does not have the capacity to manufacture goods to export to the United States of America.
